Fortive Corporation Product Compliance Test Engineer in Everett, Washington

We are looking for a Product Compliance Test Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate new product designs, support engineering changes to existing designs, and evaluate legacy equipment against constantly evolving standards.

  • Determine functional, environmental, and/or compliance test requirements and applicability of tests, equipment, and facilities. Build and complete test plans and document results in compliance with ISO 17025.

  • Evaluate progress of tests for validity of test conditions, means of measurement and performance of components or equipment in relation to specifications or requirements of harmonized standards.

  • Review and document test results; take corrective action as needed. Analyze component failures; recommend alternate components or design changes.

  • Author and defend test reports submitted international certification bodies such as CSA and ETL.

  • Specify, select and/or design laboratory test equipment vital to complete equipment assessment; assist in preparation of documents to enable fabrication of new test equipment; write operating/verification procedures for new laboratory equipment and build preventative maintenance procedures and schedules.

  • (optional) Support for Ex Quality Management system requirements of equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres including factory work instruction review, production audits, ECO review against certification documents, component incoming inspection guides etc. Experience with IEC 80079-34, IEC 60079-0, 11 for intrinsically safe designs a plus.

  • (optional) opportunity for software development towards hardware interface, control, data collection, and reporting to assist in laboratory testing needs. Experience with LabView a plus.

  • Normal office and laboratory environments. Extra hours may be required for meeting commitments but should be considered atypical. Opportunity to work from home 2 days per week depending on laboratory workload requirements. Travel less than 5%.

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or higher recommended. Other engineering/physical science degrees may be acceptable with suitable laboratory or other relevant electrical/electronics experience per below.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in product safety or EMC evaluation, electronics design, or relevant laboratory work towards product compliance safety evaluation. Experience with third party certification house such as UL, CSA, TUV, Intertek etc a plus.

  • Solid understanding of basic physics and physical concepts a necessity including ac/dc voltage, electrical current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power, energy, force, acceleration, temperature, pressure, heat transfer, etc. Working knowledge of high frequency RF a plus.

  • Strong background using a wide variety of test equipment including multimeters, calibrators, oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, current clamps, and thermometers with an understanding of their capabilities and limitations. Able to select the proper equipment for each task/measurement with limited assistance.

  • Comfortable with work around high voltage, high temperature, high pressure, flammable materials, and other potentially hazardous test environments where appropriate safety precautions must be rigorously followed.

  • Comfortable analyzing schematics and wiring diagrams to understand basic concepts of circuit function, potential sources of failure, and components and subsystems relied upon for protection against hazards.

  • Basic understanding of metrology and how to interpret laboratory equipment specifications and suitability for measurement needs.

  • Basic electronics skills including opamp, diode, and transistor circuit analysis.

  • Comfortable with understanding, interpreting, and applying generalized test procedures and standards to wide variety of specific product applications.

  • Strong background in MS Office and other software tools including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Miro etc.) experience in formatting and document manipulation a must. Document automation, template creation, VBA and macro writing experience a benefit.

  • Strong language and communication skills including technical writing, user documentation review and editing along with clear and concise communication through email, MS Teams, phone conversations, and instant messaging.

  • Should be able to disassemble and reassemble sophisticated test and measurement and laboratory equipment without instructions or damaging the equipment to facilitate design review, prep for laboratory testing and failure analysis.

  • Comfortable training other associates on use of laboratory equipment. ‘See one, do one, teach one’ mentality.

Everett, WA: The salary range for this position is $72,450 - $134,550

This position is also eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.

Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors, including, but not limited to: job-related knowledge; skills; experience; and other eligibility factors such as geographic location.
