Job Description Summary

This Staff design engineer position serves as the Low Pressure Turbine Rotor Design lead for a GE Edison Works Advanced Military Engine New Product Initiative (NPI) Program.

The LPT Rotor Lead will lead a team of cross-disciplinary engineers in the design of rotating hardware such as disks, shafts, retainers, and seals and is the primary technical leader ensuring delivery of quality technical solutions to meet program requirements and milestones. Additionally, the LPT rotor design lead will provide direct technical mentoring to mechanical design hardware owners. Success in this role requires excellence in communicating programs goals, developing and executing objectives for self and others, implementing lean process improvements, and solving complex problems. This role will deliver significant impact to both short term and long-term business goals.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead for the LPT rotor team of a Edison Works NGP program, ensuring the rotor design meets its key program milestones and technical performance requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance towards the design, analysis and evaluation of turbine disks, retainers, seals, shafts, and other rotor components using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Provide technical leadership to personnel / cross functional teams supporting the assigned project, as well as across the engineering organization to fulfill responsibilities.

  • Team with Manufacturing Programs and Supply Chain within both internal and external vendors to ensure hardware is produced on-time and with sufficient quality.

  • Communicate to the leadership team, including leaders both internal to GE and with the external military customer.

  • Implement plans with guidance to meet technical requirements of assigned components and systems.

  • Develop action plans with guidance to respond to issues/ problems.

  • Lead or participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives.

  • Recommend, with guidance, the approach to meet the technical and program requirements.

  • Participate and present or review in technical and program reviews.

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in design engineering

  • Ability obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance at the SECRET level.

Desired Characteristics

  • At least 10 additional years of experience in an Engineering position

  • Prior aerospace industry rotor design experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a small, collaborative project team

  • Controlled Title Holder (CTH) within the GE DB6 rotor design community

  • Prior experience within turbine module or turbine component design

  • Proficiency executing mechanical analysis in ANSYS, ANSYS Workbench, or SIESTA NX Teamcenter

  • Prior experience working on military and/or NPI programs

  • Attention to detail with a willingness to follow a rigorous quality process.

  • Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve

  • Highly-motivated, passionate, with exceptional communication skills.

  • Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact

  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously

  • Existing US Government security clearance
