Job Description Summary

The Senior Manufacturing Projects Engineer will lead cross-functional teams consisting of design, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and program management to assess NPI hardware and manufacturing technology for features of risk per DoD MRL Deskbook standards. They will then lead, manage, and track this team in creating and progressing through a maturation plan to develop the required manufacturing technology and mitigate identified risks. The Senior Manufacturing Projects Engineer will also be responsible for creating and owning standards and documentation and communicating them across the organization. They will be the resident expert on the DoD MRL Deskbook and serve as a coach and resource for the team. They will play an active role in shaping MRL strategy within Edison Works. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and managing engineering / technology projects. Accountable to deliver the scope of work to the original cost estimate.

  • Manages schedule, budget and integration of NPI and/or requisition projects, including influencing the projects to meet customer CTQs and hit tollgate milestones. Project is often a component of a program.

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the creation and management of risk-based manufacturing maturation plans (MMP’s)

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in the development of manufacturing processes for classified hardware.

  • Collaborate with customers and internal leadership to ensure alignment with GE MRL standards and sufficiency of substantive evidence of risk mitigation provided

  • Focal for understanding cross-program requirements to ensure adequate risk and schedule posture

  • Articulates the needs for proactive manufacturing process development and leads the proposal process for funding internally and externally

  • Document and provide training, guidance, and accountability for NPI execution according to design practices, templates, quality requirements, and the MRL development process

  • Drive process improvement and standardization of work across programs by way of FLIGHT DECK

  • Document best practices and develop training for internal team and communication externally

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma /GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, Chemical, etc) + 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering and/or project management

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

Desired Characteristics

  • 10+ years of experience in NPI manufacturing and/or project management

  • Previous or currently has DoD Security Clearance

  • Prior NPI manufacturing experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute projects.

  • Established project management skills and EVM experience.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

  • Experience and working knowledge of MRL Deskbook
