GE Aerospace Lead CMC Mechanical Design Engineer in Evendale, Ohio

Job Description Summary

This role is within the Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Mechanical Design team in GE Aerospace’s Engineering Division. This individual will be responsible for the design and development of CMC components within the Combustor Module of the RISE engine. RISE is an open rotor engine currently under development by CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.

As a Lead Engineer, you will play a key role in maturing the design and technology associated with CMC combustor components. You will be responsible as an individual contributor to ensure the design meets program requirements, and you will organize and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including stress and life analysis, materials engineering, manufacturing, and systems. You will need to implement lessons learned from other programs into the next generation of component designs. Other responsibilities for this role may include supporting component manufacturing and assisting rig test assemblies.

In this position, you will have a certain level of autonomy, which will require you to take ownership of the quality of your work and executing on established processes and procedures as defined in GE's Engineering Handbook. While executing tasks, you will need to assess your capabilities and seek guidance from your supervisor and technical mentors when necessary.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles while adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy.

  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university

  • Minimum of 3 years prior relevant engineering experience in design engineering

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; experience working on teams

  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills

  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with demonstrated project management expertise

  • Effective problem-solving, analytical skills, and ability to make appropriate risk-based decisions

  • Familiarity with hardware ownership, jet engines, hot section design, and/or combustor design

  • Proficiency in CAD software (Unigraphics NX), GD&T, and assembly stack-up

  • Composite design and/or manufacturing experience
