Department Summary

The Department of Physics is an instructional and research department within the College of Arts and Sciences that supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields in the Physics discipline. The Department includes approximately 35 teaching faculty, emeritus faculty, research staff, graduate students, and professional/administrative staff. The department enrolls approximately 2,000 students per term, with approximately 200 undergraduate Physics majors, 50 students in the pre-engineering program, and 105 doctoral students.

Position Summary

The Department of Physics at the University of Oregon is seeking qualified applicants for its open pool for research positions. Positions are limited-duration appointments that are part-time or short-term contracts not to exceed one year. There may be a possibility of renewal up to a total of three years, depending on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Research Assistant positions will conduct research under the direction of the Principal investigator (PI). Research Associate positions will be conducting research with only general guidance from the PI. Postdoctoral Scholar positions conduct research under the direction of a faculty member for the purpose of acquiring research training.

This pool is open rank, and applicants will be considered for appropriate vacancies based on both their experience, and applicable business needs.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum qualifications by rank:

• Research Assistant: bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Assistant I: bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post-degree

• Senior Research Assistant II: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post-degree

• Postdoctoral Scholar: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Research Associate: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Associate I: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post-degree

• Senior Research Associate II: terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post-degree

Professional Competencies

• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
