Library Systems & Services Literacy Associate 2 - Literacy Services in Escondido, California

The Escondido Public Library is seeking a part-time 30 hour Literacy Associate 2 for Literacy Services. This position reports to the Literacy Coordinators. A successful candidate will posses an outgoing nature with excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills, and be passionate about literacy. The position is dependent on state LSTA Grant funding which is currently through June 30, 2027.

Under direction of the Literacy Coordinator(s) the Literacy Associate 2 performs a variety of moderately complex technical paraprofessional duties in support of various functions of Literacy Services.

Duties include:

  • Conducting learner orientations.

  • Performing assessments for adult, Family, and ESL entering the Literacy program, tutor training and coaching.

  • Providing customers service.

  • Writing newsletter articles, document procedures.

  • Maintaining records with timely and accurate data entry.

  • Assisting with opening and closing the literacy learning center.

  • Performing phone and reception duties.

  • Assisting with outreach to the community.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED; Bachelor Degree preferred

  • Experience in Literacy, Education, Social or Human Services, or related field preferred

  • An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and or/work experience required.

  • Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites, and Zoom

  • Excellent customer service skills both written and verbal with emphasis on compassion, patience, and tact when working with individuals with diverse backgrounds English / Spanish preferred

  • Able maintain confidentiality, demonstrated focus on the program mission and goals

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift, push/pull, hold. carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop
