Emerson NA Power Automation Engineer (Excitation) in Escazú, Costa Rica

Primary Duties and Accountabilities :

  • Work with a team implementing solutions to be applied in different power plant processes and applications (Hydro, Thermo, SCADA, etc.) participating in the project phases such as In-house Engineering, FAT and SAT)

  • Designing of Electrical Circuit Drawing for generator excitation system.

  • Designing of Mechanical Layout for generator excitation system.

  • Preparation for BOM for generator excitation system.

  • Preparation of database, control logics and graphic for generator excitation system.

  • Heat-Run Test, High-Potential Test, IR Test for generator excitation system.

  • Verification, calibration and functional testing of I/O interfaces to field devices.

  • On site testing for the dynamic performance of excitation control system.

  • Tuning and optimization of excitation control system at start-up.

  • Review application documentation for quality, accuracy and completeness

  • Solve technical problems through the combination of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures, experience, or methods developed in previous assignments

  • Actively participates in maintaining and improve the group KPIs such us on-time performance, customer satisfaction and quality

  • Work closely with partners to meet the project requirements and deadlines

  • Consistently shows ability to accurately communicate with customers

  • Constantly works proactively and independently

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Electronics, Mechatronics from an accredited university

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Industrial Automation Projects

  • Experience with any of the following Control Systems: Emerson, ABB, Invensys, Honeywell, Westinghouse, Bristol Babcock, Yokogawa, Siemens, Rockwell, etc.

  • Experience with any of the following HMI or SCADA software packages: Wonderware, Rockwell, Intellution, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, US Data, National Instruments.

  • Experience on working on high power equipment.

  • Power Industry experience is a plus

  • Experience in generator excitation system is a plus

  • Travel time around 50%

  • Intermediate-Advance level of English

  • Good interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills

  • A good business understanding and the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers
