Position Summary

The Tooling Manager is responsible for overseeing maintenance, improvement efforts, changeover standardization, and troubleshooting coordination of injection molds, tools, and fixtures to include management of a tooling staff.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure all plant tooling operations are conducted in a safe and controlled environment.

  • Lead a team of mold technicians by setting and communicating clear expectations, managing performance, providing appropriate training and resources to safely and effectively perform their job; guide and develop direct reports to achieve plant objectives and personal goals.

  • Provide technical support for efficient troubleshooting / problem solving activities and tooling repair to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime.

  • Effectively manage and prioritize tooling repair and maintenance of entire mold inventory. Coordinate PM efforts with other departments to ensure mold quality and readiness are maintained.

  • Use effective problem solving methodology in order to identify and solve true root causes for major injection mold failures as well as identification and resolution of repeat failures.

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance into mold schedule, and well as set up mold part safety stock inventories, develop continuous improvement methods to develop mold change effectiveness, as well as other reliability programs in order to meet efficiency goals.

  • Ensure that appropriate inventory levels for standard replacement parts are maintained.

  • Interprets and understands specifications, blueprints and any other technical paperwork to determine OEM Standards with mold tolerances, troubleshooting, and mold component improvement opportunities.

  • Develop and manage supplier relationships

Qualifications

  • 4 year degree in a technical field or equivalent experience

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and work knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems

  • 3+ years of direct management experience preferred

  • 5+ years of injection molding experience preferred

  • Strong Computer/Microsoft Office skills; be able to efficiently work with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and working knowledge of CMMS systems, preferably JD Edwards
