Who will you be working with?

The Wabtec Mining business provides drive systems for large off-highway trucks serving the mining industry. We provide the power and control to move up to 400-tons of earth, metal and mineral ores, coal and any material that needs moving. You will be a key member of the team, interacting daily with the customer, engineering, manufacturing and field services to solve reliability and quality issues.

How will you make a difference?

The Reliability and Quality Product Support Leader will lead projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business that are aimed at improving product reliability. In this role you will direct and lead project teams to identify, solve and improve product reliability performance. Weekly customer project status meetings, monthly executive report outs and quarterly GM/Sr. Exec customer presentations are vital to communicating your deliverables and solutions directly to the customer. A typical week will involve: tracking returned electronics components, perform electrical screening, and coordinate further testing; lead project meetings with engineering subject matter experts; answer customer questions and inquiries; report out on project progress; coordinate and consult with field service for upgrade programs; coordinate with manufacturing to drive quality issue solutions.

What do we want to know about you?

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related Engineering field.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in mining, propulsion system controls, controls quality, or related industry.

  • Understanding of electronics design and function.

  • Ability to drive projects to ultimate completion.

  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes & procedures.

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification or other equivalent quality certification desired.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customer.

What will your typical day look like?

The Reliability and Quality Product Support Leader for controls is responsible for the reliability growth of the mining control equipment, including but not limited to power electronics, control electronics, harnessing, cabling, light fabrications. In this role you will be responsible for giving technical and program leadership on major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues within, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

  • Provide project leadership to complete reliability growth projects with cross functional teams.

  • Identify quality issues and engage quality leadership to determine root cause and drive resolution.

  • Provide reliability performance feedback and input to engineering and manufacturing throughout fabrication, assembly and test processes.

  • Support field issue resolution with cross functional team.

  • Receive, track and manage disposition of field returned material. Perform and coordinate testing and evaluation with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier quality to determine root cause of component failures.

  • Provide input for Manufacturing Instruction development and review.

  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as manufacturing, sourcing, services, and global engineering.

  • Effectively communicate project status to customers and to all levels of the Wabtec organization.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Work in an office setting, using telephones, computers, copy machines, etc.

  • Walk/stand for long periods of time on hard, concrete surfaces.

  • Walk up and down steps.

  • Ability to travel internationally.
