This Nursing position is responsible for the provision and coordination of mental health services for persons incarcerated at the Erie County Prison. The LPN is expected to perform a number of tasks including providing comprehensive mental health assessments, limited individual counseling facilitating linkages to treatment and other related services and prepares for and assists with rounds by psychiatrist and/or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). This position is overseen by the Managing Nurse and is expected to work closely with the CRNP and psychiatrist(s) and be able to facilitate the appropriate treatment for the incarcerated individuals. Knowledge of psychiatric illnesses and medications is essential. This position requires an ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle information with tact and diplomacy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse by State of Pennsylvania; experience working with individuals with mental illness preferred.
  2. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, organizational skills and the ability to effectively work with a team of direct care workers.
  3. Ability to effectively work with persons with mental illness and encourage their participation with comprehensive treatment and recovery plans.
  4. Strong clinical skills with working knowledge of the mental health system.
  5. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  6. Act 31, 33 and 34 clearances and FBI Criminal Background Check are required.
