Job Title: Lead Phlebotomist (Full-Time, Second Shift)

Location: UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA

Shift Hours: 12:00 PM - 10:30 PM (4-10 hour shifts)

Role Overview: As a Lead Phlebotomist at UPMC Hamot, you’ll play a pivotal role in our laboratory team. Your expertise in phlebotomy practices and leadership skills will be essential as you oversee the collection, handling, and processing of patient blood samples. Key Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Collection and Handling:

  • Collect specimens promptly and accurately following established procedures.

  • Ensure positive patient identification during specimen collection and labeling.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, patients, and coworkers, promptly addressing any unresolved issues.

  • Team Collaboration and Special Projects:

  • Participate in teams and special projects.

  • Delegate phlebotomy priorities and non-urgent tasks as needed.

  • Mentor and orient new employees.

  • Administrative and Clerical Duties:

  • Perform basic clerical tasks (e.g., filing, faxing, data entry).

  • Maintain accurate documentation and statistical logs.

  • Work Environment and Safety:

  • Keep the work area clean and organized.

  • Ensure compliance with dress codes, policies, and safety regulations.

  • Report any violations to the supervisor promptly.

  • Customer Interaction:

  • Interact courteously and professionally with internal and external customers.

  • Answer phone inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Specimen Processing and Problem Resolution:

  • Process and package specimens according to testing specifications.

  • Investigate and document any problems promptly.

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years' experience

  • Must have the ability to establish work priorities and handle several procedures simultaneously.

  • Must interact with other departments.

Preferred

  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
