Charter Communications Inc in Englewood, CO seeks Principal Software Engineer I to develop software and code to add intelligence and streaming telemetry capabilities to the Cable Modern Network. Develop software abstraction layers to enable streaming telemetry from cable modems from vendors to data collection systems. Structure modular and interoperable software systems. Perform software programming and debugging utilizing C, C++, and Python. Develop software architectures and proof-of-concept code to enable a common set of applications to function on cable modems and gateway hardware platforms. Develop and implement test plans to validate the application of software functions and capabilities applied to Cable Modem Access Architectures. Propose and develop software architectures to automate Cable Modem Networks to improve customer Internet quality. Develop supporting Grafana dashboards to monitor and display performance metrics. Develop, specify and publish APIs and interface requirements to enable advanced telemetry and device management capabilities. Assess advances in Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and assess their potential benefit to Broadband Internet access. Create Broadband Access technical strategies. Develop DOCSIS and PON architectures that leverage SDN and/or AI algorithms and develop technical requirements. Write RDK-B or OpenWrt software for DOCSIS cable modems and gateway devices. Port functionality from existing RDK-B or OpenWrt DOCSIS cable modems and gateway devices to other devices utilizing Build Root Framework. Utilize SIP protocols for VoIP support on DOCSIS cable modems and gateway devices. Create documentation and presentations to explain and advocate SDN and AI functions and capabilities to company leadership.

Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field. 5 years of experience performing software programming and debugging utilizing C,C++, and Python. 3 years of experience: structuring modular and interoperable software systems; writing RDK-B or OpenWrt software for DOCSIS cable modems and gateway devices; 2 years of experience: utilizing Build Root Framework to port functionality from existing RDK-B or OpenWrt DOCSIS cable modems and gateway devices to other devices and utilizing SIP protocols for VoIP support on DOCSIS cable modems and gateway devices. Hybrid (in office and remote) work arrangement is available.

Salary depends on geography, experience, and education; negotiations begin at $152,069/year.
