Mount St. Mary's University Painter in Emmitsburg, Maryland

Perform all duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor/Manager/Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Apply paint to surfaces including canvas, walls, floors, doors and cabinets.
  • Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel and other finishes.
  • Scrape, sandpaper, prime or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Clean walls to ensure proper adherence.
  • Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection.
  • Calculates amounts of required materials and estimate costs.
  • Fill cracks, holes and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
  • Erect scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps and switch covers prior to painting.
  • Select and buy paint/brushes/materials from vendors, negotiate pricing when necessary.
  • Remove all paint splatters when job is complete.
  • Utilize spray guns for larger jobs.
  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  • In order to move to Painter II, must have received satisfactory performance evaluations, reached 3 years of experience, and attended all required University trainings.
  • Previous painting experience or equivalent education, or be willing to work with an experienced painter onsite for training.
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations for the Universitys Safety Policy which apply to the work environment.
  • Must be able to adhere to deadlines and exhibit solid customer service and a strong ability to work well with others.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions. Basic, proficient math skills are needed to carry out measurements.
  • 0 - 3 years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Good hygiene and cleanliness is required at all times
  • Must adhere to the company uniform policy.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle and make office aware of maintenance issues
  • Follow rules and regulations as described in the company Handbook

Physical Requirements:

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy items up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to spend significant amount of time outside in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.

Minimum Pay Rate: $15.00/Hour
