Job Information

Mount St. Mary's University Maintenance Worker 1 in Emmitsburg, Maryland

Perform all duties as assigned by immediate Supervisor/Manager/Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies deficiencies and deviations from maintenance schedules and standards and performs inspection and inspection test of equipment and buildings.
  • Performs general repairs/maintenance as well as minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Assists other mechanical maintenance tradesmen as directed.
  • May operate light or heavy equipment, and maintain equipment and tools.
  • Assists with snow removal as needed.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • In order to move to Maintenance Worker II, must have received satisfactory performance evaluations, reached 3 years of experience, and attended all required University trainings.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED and 0-3 years of experience required.
  • Ability to read, write and follow directions.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating/cooling and general repairs.
  • 3+ years of experience in a specific trade preferred (i.e., plumbing, electrical, etc.).
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to all the safety rules and regulations for the University Safety Policy which apply to the work environment.
  • Valid drivers license.

Physical Requirements

  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy items up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to spend a significant amount of time outside in all weather conditions.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

Salary/Benefits

  • Minimum Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
