Navistar, Inc. Sheet Metal Processor / Designer in Elmendorf, Texas

Position Overview

Navistar’s Advanced Technology Center has an exciting new opportunity for a Sheet Metal Processor / Designer to join our team in Elmendorf, TX. The Sheet Metal Processor / Designer creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering. The drawings are used by the fabrication teams to create experimental parts used on our prototype vehicles and for testing/validation in order to deliver units on time for validation.

The Navistar Elmendorf Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is a Research and Development Facility as well as a support center for the San Antonio Manufacturing Plant that builds leading-edge commercial vehicles. The build operations department supports the R&D departments in the day-to-day operations and ensures that testing is not interrupted due to equipment failure or delays.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering.

  • Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.

  • Checks drawing plots versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards.

  • Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards and ECN/ECR documentation.

  • May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree

  • At least 1 year experience with creating concepts, designs, layouts, detailed parts and product drawings using a 3D solid modeling CAD System

OR

  • At least 2 years of experience with creating concepts, designs, layouts, detailed parts and product drawings using a 3D solid modeling CAD System

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Nx software with sheet metal and/or modeling experience

  • Prior experience with fabrication and/or sheet metal parts

  • Sheet metal or modeling experience using Siemens UG Nx (or similar CAD software)

  • Prior experience with fabrication and/or sheet metal parts

  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, basic GD&T & basic tolerancing

  • Ability to work cross functionally with metal fabricators and engineering

  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint
