Major/Essential Functions:
Develops and implements a vision for the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and provides leadership of the department to enhance scholarship, education, patient care, and academically-related public service
Serves as the Family Medicine clinical chief at affiliated hospitals: The Hospitals of Providence –Transmountain Campus and the University Medical Center El Paso
Actively engages in clinical practice in Family Medicine clinics and the hospital inpatient service at affiliated hospitals to fulfill the Department’s contractual clinical service obligations
Promotes a regional reputation for clinical excellence
Enhances faculty recruitment, fosters faculty development, and promotes retention of qualified faculty
Participates in and promotes excellence in undergraduate medical education, including collaboration on the pre-clerkship and clerkship family medicine curriculum
Fosters success in graduate medical education for a multisite residency with two independently-accredited Family Medicine residency programs and a sports medicine fellowship program
Operates the department in a fiscally prudent and sustainable manner
Serves as a member of the Dean’s Council and works collaboratively with departmental chair colleagues
Fosters collaborative relationships with community-based and university-based faculty, including internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, and psychiatry faculty
Promotes research programs in the department with emphasis on community-based participative research, as well as on currently funded regional and national projects
Serves as a mentor and role model for faculty, fellows, residents, staff, and students
Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine’s Declaration of
Faculty Professional Responsibility and models the Values Based Culture of TTUHSC El Paso

Preferred Qualifications:
A distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and scholarship with national stature
Experience and understanding of undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education program requirements
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well within and outside the department, including senior leadership, clinical partners, and the community
Experience in recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and developing faculty, staff, and fellows/residents
Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, medical management, or equivalent administrative experience
Experience in managing quality outcomes for patient care services
Experience in growing revenue, meeting budgets, assessing clinical and economic performance, and strengthening a department
Experience in or a willingness to learn philanthropy pertinent to an academic department
Established national reputation for the rank of Professor

Required Qualifications:
M.D. or D.O. degree
Texas medical license, or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas
Board certification in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine
Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher
Emerging regional or national reputation in family medicine
Leadership experience at the level of Department Chair, Vice-Chair, Division Chief, Medical Director, Program Director, or other comparable experience
Experience as a practicing clinician in an academic medical center
