Manager, Vacuum & System Release

Department:

Vacuum & System Release is one of the Mechanical Engineering groups in Competence & Technology departments of TEM Solutions, the Research and Development organization for Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). We are committed to develop innovative technologies, modules and components that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.

With the ongoing developments in physics and industry, the requirements for performance of these TEM are continuously growing. Aligning well with Advanced Technology Development and several strategic collaboration partners, in our TEM Solutions department we are striving to convert the most promising technological concepts into real products - with the purpose to enable our customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and safer!

Team :

In this role, you will be leading a group of 15-20 motivated team members, consisting of engineers and experts that are specialized in mechanical engineering and designing for high and ultra-high vacuum. You will act as a coach and mentor for your team members, focusing on the development of individuals and the team on their competences and skills. You will also own the relationships with our suppliers and development partners. The members of the group, who are based in Brno or in Eindhoven, will be reporting directly to you.

This group involves vacuum experts who work with the vacuum domain owner in taking the lead in defining the current and future competence needs in this area and contribute to our strong technical capabilities in TEM development.

Position :

  • Leadership of the Vacuum & System Release group in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Taking ownership for development of the vacuum competences in the team.

  • Conducting goal settings, performance evaluations, attracting new talent, organization of trainings.

  • Securing the quality of the results of the group members.

  • Providing effort estimations and team member allocations to staff the project portfolio's that are requesting support from the team.

  • Recognizing opportunities for improvements within the team or on the collaborations with other competence teams, or in the processes that are used. Driving towards implementation of those suggested improvements.

  • Contributing to development and maintenance of the technology roadmap for TEM systems and modules together with the team members, as well as securing the commonality across the various portfolios.

  • Connecting with industrial partners, knowledge centers and/or universities on the development of new concepts or modules to support our product roadmap.

  • Frequent and productive interactions with project leads and program managers and peers, on matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • A university degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with experience in design principles of mechanical system development.

  • Experience in leading a team of people in a high-tech R&D environment is highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead sophisticated engineering projects through a defined product management process is preferred. Understanding the challenges and necessities in New Product Development (NPD) is important.

  • Advanced knowledge on a broad area of Electron Microscopy related technologies is preferred, but relevant experience in other highly complex industries will be considered.

  • Excellent skills in persuading, inspiring, developing and motivating are required in the interaction with other people.
