Digital Services Platform Software Architect

The Mission:

Service Innovation is leading in the design of new digital services for Thermo Fisher Scientific high-tech products. With the growing business prospects and data analytical requirements for these services comes the need to expand the infrastructural foundations. As the scope and operations expand, the services platform needs to scale and connect to other infrastructures, while still being manageable and cost efficient.

The Position:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Software Architect to join our team and contribute to the design and development of our innovative digital services platform. This platform is crafted to run either in the cloud or on-premises, offering flexibility and scalability to our clients. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, outstanding problem-solving skills, and the skill to effectively communicate concepts and translate them depending on the audience either into business value or technology.

Responsibilities:

You will be a member of the architects board and drive key design decisions related to platform technology. To realize the platform design and development, you will work closely with the various development teams as well as R&D, IT and operations, to ensure integration of infrastructure and aligned roadmaps.

What is the most scalable and cost effective way of realizing our services with the shortest possible time to market while optimising maintainability. What to buy vs. what to build? These are the kind of challenges you will face! Activities to achieve this include:

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to define and develop the architecture of the technology platform

  • Be a key player in platform and development technology selection

  • Design scalable, secure and robust software solutions that can run in the cloud or on-premise.

  • Conduct thorough system analysis, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement, and providing recommendations to optimize the system architecture.

  • Lead and guide the development team and provide mentoring to ensure adherence preto architectural principles.

  • Communicate sophisticated concepts to non-technical stakeholders, translating them into business value and helping them understand the benefits, trade-offs and outcomes of architectural decisions.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and new technologies and apply this knowledge to drive innovation and continuous improvement within the software architecture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a Software Architect, preferably in crafting a digital services platform.

  • Solid understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and on-premises infrastructure.

  • Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable and distributed systems, using microservices architecture and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Excellent understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps practices.

  • Experience with modern programming languages and frameworks and proficiency in database design and optimization.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code and continuous integration and development

  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills, to identify and address complex architectural challenges.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a passion for guiding and developing a development team.

If you are a highly motivated Software Architect who thrives in a dynamic and innovative environment, and possesses the ability to translate technical concepts into valuable business solutions, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join our team and contribute to the success of our digital services business.
