Project/ Business Development Engineer – Infrastructure

Our TWD infrastructure business unit is a value driven engineering group focused on transportation, electrical and utility infrastructure.  We provide engineering consulting, advisory, design, procurement, project management, and construction management services. TWD is currently looking for a Project/ Business Development Engineer – Infrastructure This position could be based in either Edmonton or Calgary, AB.  

Job Summary

The primary responsibilities of this role is to take overall ownership of business development for the TWD infrastructure group  within the Western region, and to support the continued development and growth of TWD’s Infrastructure business in the region.  This includes supporting clients on existing projects and seeking new opportunities/relationships in the region.

Prime responsibilities of this role:

  • Overall stewardship of the business development plan for infrastructure in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba

  • Lead the development of high-quality proposals working with TWD leadership and the engineering team to ensure technical input and content is aligned to RFP and client’s needs

  • Coordinate business development input from other team members and from subcontractors; and participate in proposal debrief and lessons learned discussions

  • Support the development of marketing materials, including individual portfolio and projects portfolio in collaboration with the Corporate BD team

  • Support the VP and Regional Manager in creating and executing strategies and initiatives in support of the regional business plans

  • Research project backgrounds, timelines, client programs, and capital budgets

  • Assist and/or lead the creation of presentations and client introduction meetings

  • Technical support and oversight to TWD infrastructure clients in the western region

  • Lead and/or support infrastructure projects in the region thru technical input and/or project management (typically electrical engineering in focus) (project work is anticipated at 25%)

    Job Responsibilities

  • Business Development:

  • Support Existing Client Base

  • Foster existing client relationships and  further develop and grow these relationships to meet regional sales targets

  • Identify and Grow New Client Base

  • Work to identify, grow and develop a new client base in the Western region to meet sales growth targets.

  • Develop secondment (at client) employees to promote TWD engineering services

  • General:

  • Participate and support the development of annual regional sales targets in collaboration with the RGM and VP, with support from Corporate BD as required.

  • Lead proposal preparation and presentations as required

  • Work with Corporate BD to promote TWD’s offering to clients

  • Ensure project results / learnings are accurately captured in new project proposals

  • Lead by example and support TWD’s culture of being a “Seller-Doer”

     

  • Project Engineering:

  • Participate in billable work as Project Engineer and/or Electrical Engineer as required.

  • As Project Engineer/Business Development Engineer, duties include inter-discipline coordination, interfacing with the client, and general support to the project manager for budget and schedule adherence.

  • Provide project engineering to assigned project to complete project deliverables.

  • Coordinate with team leads project reviews internally and externally

  • Participate in and support TWD’s HSSE/Quality Programs and related requirements

  • Examples of Electrical Engineer support duties include:

    • design of transportation electrical infrastructure including street lighting, traffic

    signals, pedestrian crosswalks, and ITS systems.

    • Assist other engineers and technologists in carrying out technical tasks.
  • Review and perform quality control checks for drawings and deliverables.

  • Provide support and direction to junior staff.

  • Perform Engineer of Record functions.

  • Work with staff from other TWD offices.

  • Keep abreast of best practices and the latest technology in the transportation industry.

    Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (B.Eng) from a recognized post-secondary institution (preferably Electrical)

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience; Certification as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.

  • Experience in Infrastructure and Buildings – including Utility, streetlights, traffic signal and building

  • Knowledge of engineering design, construction and maintenance practices, codes, & standards

  • Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking skills with an ability to identify and anticipate potential risks.

  • Ability to work autonomously yet collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Shows initiative and drives cost effective and timely results.

  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills required

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Project) and SAP are assets.

  • Field experience and experience in maintenance, reliability, turnarounds, and projects are assets

  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 and Part 3.

  • Knowledge of analysis tools such as PLS-CAD, SPIDA Calc, AGi32, CYME would be considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation and Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, etc. is required.

  • Ability to interact with a range of personalities and styles to establish effective relationships at all levels with clients and stakeholders

  • An adequate level of comfort to successfully undertake business development activities.

  • Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
