Powell Industries, Inc. Building Erector II - Night Shift in Edmonton, Alberta

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, the Building Erector - Night Shift will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the PCR (Power Control Room) Assembly Department. The Building Erector - Night Shift is responsible for erecting steel buildings, the installation of all mechanical attachments for the buildings and the manufacturing process associated with PCR Assembly.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assembly of E-Houses (PCR) and other materials while accurately following blue-prints and instructions.

• Steel building/cladding/foam panel erection.

• Use proven trade practices and proper tools for all tasks.

• Follow direction from Supervisors and Lead Persons.

• Promotes a safety culture as well as attends all safety meetings.

• Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.

• Ensure that work areas remain clean and well organized.

Job Requirements - Core Competencies

• Demonstrates an understanding of construction, manufacturing and building concepts.

• Possesses the internal desire and motivation to succeed at completing tasks that lead to achievement of team goals.

• Changes priorities to meet changing demands; adjusts quickly to new responsibilities and tasks.

• Knowledge of hand, electric and air tools and some vibrating tools.

• Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable when performing and completing job tasks.

• Demonstrates a sense of urgency and a “can-do” attitude by collaborating with others to solve problems and drive results.

• Ability to learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure adherence to ISO requirements.

• Able to work effectively within your team and around other departments and their activities.

• Must have a basic command of the English language, both written and verbal.

• Basic ability performing mathematical calculations.

• Ability to read a tape measure (this includes conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fractions).

• Due to the safety sensitive nature of this position successful candidates will undergo pre-employment substance abuse and medical testing upon hire.

Qualifications

• Minimum education level of a High School Diploma is required.

• Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience and the ability to operate forklifts is an asset.

• Safety training certificates are an asset for the position.

• Previous experience in steel building/cladding/foam panel erection is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.

  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses and respirators) when required.

  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and all-size extension ladders).

  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.

  • Working around loud machinery.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.

  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.

  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.

  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.

  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.

  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
