Job Description Summary

The Power System Engineer will be a key member of the Services team responsible for delivering software solutions in the Energy domain. This role involves leading the implementation of advanced optimization-based applications for Electricity Markets (MMS). A significant focus of the role will be on developing and optimizing software applications for electricity markets, including working on flow-based projects and market operations. The role spans functional design, software design, development, testing, and application integration in various power system domains, including transmission networks, generation, distribution, and energy markets.

Key Responsibilities

With Software Solutions (SWS) project execution as background within our Services branch Services, the Digital Energy Power System Engineer is responsible for:

  • Leading the specification, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of power systems application software, including flow-based market projects.

  • Performing integration, tuning, results analysis, defect identification, and correction for power system applications, with a focus on optimization-based software for electricity markets.

  • Ensuring adherence to quality assurance standards and procedures throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Managing task planning, progress tracking, and budget monitoring for assigned projects.

  • Contributing to overall project planning, including cost estimation, risk assessment, and mitigation strategy development.

  • Establishing and maintain relationships with customers and partners, addressing general and specific issues in the area of expertise.

  • Providing technical expertise to support business development activities, including marketing, sales, and tendering for proposals and product demonstrations.

Qualifications

  • We seek a PhD or Engineer’s degree in power system or software engineering with a strong electrical background, a broad understanding of business and software fundamentals with 8+ years.

  • Experience in software development and delivery

  • Experience in the European Energy Electricity field required.

Desired skills and experience

Technical knowledge and experience are expected in the following domains:

  • Solid knowledge of power systems, particularly in network modeling, network analysis, and generation control applications.

  • Proven experience leading the implementation of software solutions in the energy domain.

  • Familiarity with energy market operations, such as flow-based market coupling and balancing markets, is an asset.

  • DevOps and Agile methodology.

  • Proficiency in C++ programming; additional skills in Python, Java, or similar languages are desirable.

  • Experience working in a CI/CD environment (Agile, GitHub, test automation, etc.).

Abilities:

  • Knowledge of international distributed teams and organization across multiple sites.

  • Process and methodology oriented.

  • People skills, especially capability to drive a team towards a common goal, experienced with offshore teams is mandatory.

  • Highly collaborative and able to work across the organization.

  • Capacity to promote continuous improvement.

  • Travels in Europe to be foreseen.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical designs and solutions to customers. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is a plus.
