Overview

M Health Fairview is looking for an Emergency Department Technician at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 60 hours per two weeks on the Night shift, for 12 hour shifts, and every third weekend, and is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more. The starting base rate of pay for the position is $23.52. Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay.

Our Emergency Department is a 44 bed, Level 3 Trauma Center that treats over 55,000 patients per year. In addition to being a Trauma Center, the Hospital is a Cardiac Center of Excellence and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Responsibilities Job Description

Job Responsibilities

The Emergency Department Technician is responsible for assisting the professional nurse in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and reordering and stocking supplies. The EDT performs patient care duties under the delegation of an RN which may include:

  • 12 lead EKG’s

  • Orthopedic applications

  • Sterile procedures

  • Patient transport and ambulation

  • Wound dressing and irrigation

Additional responsibilities for the EDT include:

Providing for patient safety by following appropriate safety procedures and applying proper infection control techniques.

Promptly responding to call lights and requests.

Documenting patient care activities and procedures on the nursing record.

Assisting in resuscitation with appropriate CPR and bag/valve mask.

Maintaining patient rooms by restocking the room, supplies, and carts, and assisting with patient room clean-up between patients.

Performing quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment.

Performing other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Required

License/Certification/Registration

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment. Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.

AND ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Current EMT or ERT certification upon hire. This certification does not need to be maintained throughout employment.

OR

Current Paramedic Certification. This certification does not need to be maintained throughout employment.

OR

Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This certification does not need to be maintained throughout employment. NOTE: Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.

OR

Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

OR

Six months of recent direct patient care experience in an acute care, long term care, or home care setting. (Appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, or Resident Assistant)

OR

Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program.

OR

LPN licensure upon hire. This licensure does not need to be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred

Experience

  • Previous Emergency Room experience of 1 or more year as an Emergency Room Scribe, paramedic, ERT, EMT, EDT or ED EMS

  • Current CNA or NST experience of 1 or more year

License/Certification/Registration

  • Paramedic, EMT, ERT, LPN, CNA, PCA
