Looking for a job driving semi for a family-owned business that provides plenty of variety but keeps you in your general home vicinity every day and allows you a more typical, more flexible day shift schedule? This is the one for you!\ \ Job Overview

Drive and operate a semi as part of our fleet of drivers hauling logs, lumber, mulch, sawdust, etc. Drive to and from the jobsite multiple times per day to haul product in and out of our sawmill. We typically travel within a 150-mile radius of Muscatine. This is an at home every night job operating new (or newer) equipment. The company provides the truck and has team members to help with maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a semi-truck according to applicable state and federal transportation laws and company policies.
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspection of truck pursuant to DOT regulations that includes checking fluids levels, tire pressure, brakes, and other controls for loading and unloading.
  • Transports loads safely and in a timely manner over required route, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
  • Deftly maneuvers truck and trailer into loading and unloading areas.
  • Loads and unloads logs, materials, and finished goods, using specialized equipment when warranted.
  • Use chains or fastening straps to secure each load as required.
  • Maintains signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, and other required paperwork; delivers documentation when delivery route is complete.
  • Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving and retain receipts.
  • Inspects vehicles for mechanical and safety issues and performs some preventive maintenance. Facilitates routine service on trucks, which may include checking oil, water, gasoline, and air.
  • Arranges trailers for optimum loading patterns.
  • Working safely and using all required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Keeping work area clean and organized.
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations in a timely manner.
  • Working cooperatively with coworkers in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Works overtime as required.
  • This position requires the driver to work in the weather elements while loading and unloading the truck.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
  • Valid DOT Health Registration Card.
  • Proven work experience or training as a truck driver.
  • Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules, laws, regulations and policies.
  • No recent moving or driving violations.
  • Ability to follow instructions from Managers.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to run a log loader or ability to learn how to run a log loader for getting logs on and off the trailer.
