SALARY: $41,745- 45K

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Aquatics and Youth Sports Director of the East Orange YMCA, the Aquatics Coordinator will assist with the overall daily operation of the Aquatics and Youth Sports Department. Major areas include, but are not limited to, coordinating staff schedules, ensuring policies, and procedures are followed. The Aquatics and Youth Sports Coordinator is required to assist in the operation of the aquatics and youth sports program in compliance with YMCA best practices. Responsibilities include the coordination of the department’s Swim Instruction and Lifeguard programs as well as the operation, facilitating, planning and coordinating of related events and programs including direct oversight of scheduling private lessons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with recruitment, train, schedule personnel and volunteers as needed.

  • Ensure staff certifications are current and keep accurate record.

  • Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.

  • Assist the Maintenance Director in conducting and ensure proper maintenance of pool. Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

  • Secure and schedule pool facilities during all hours of operation.

  • Comply with all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

  • Comply with all safety rules and use of all appropriate safety equipment.

  • Attend Great American Insurance aquatics safety trainings as well as other trainings identified in the professional development plan.

  • Conduct life guarding, swim instruction, First Aid, and CPR trainings.

  • Coordinate swim classes, private lessons, water fitness, and youth sports/enrichment classes in cooperation with the fitness department; as well as sports team practices and meets in cooperation with the Aquatics and Youth Sports Director.

  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.

  • Assist Aquatics and Youth Sports Director to develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.

  • Respond to all aquatic and youth sports inquiries and complaints in timely manner.

  • Participate in Association Aquatics and Youth Sports Quality Teams.

  • Assist the Program Director in management of the youth sports, with a strong focus on Basketball Program, including travel basketball, in-house leagues, clinics, and classes.

  • Organize, plan, and carryout sports classes as needed for a variety of sports and age groups that are both challenging and educational.

  • Communicate efficiently and effectively in order to ensure parents and families are fully engaged with sports programs.

  • Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.

  • Order and purchase supplies within the confined of the Aquatics and Youth Sports Department budget.

  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    OTHER DUTIES:

  • Serve as a member of the Key Staff team which includes Director on Duty, regular meeting attendance and participation at branch and Association-related special events.

  • Participate in and support the Annual Support Campaign and play a leadership role in this campaign at the YMCA.

  • Maintain professional and courteous demeanor, and positive attitude when dealing with staff, parents or members.

  • As a member of key staff, share responsibility for the administration of the success for the overall Branch performance and help maintain a positive image for the Wayne YMCA.

  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

  • Exhibit professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.

  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and planning skills.

    DIRECT REPORTS:

    Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, other aquatics related staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management or related area.

  • At least four years working experience in the Aquatics field.

  • Minimum one year of experience in a related program coordination role and proven supervisory experience preferably in a pool facility.

  • First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard and Swim Instructor certifications required.

  • Pool operation certification required.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Experience with relevant software applications such as Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to exercise effective independent judgement and sound decision-making.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to work as a member of the team, provide high quality customer service, and maintain productive relationships with other agencies, YMCA members, and staff is essential.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Sufficient strength, ability, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
