Animal Control Officer/Animal Inspector Days spilt between each Animal Control Officer/Animal Inspector Non - Exempt Non-Benefitted/Non-Union Daily on-call rate \$75/day; Animal Inspector Stipend \$1,500; Holiday pay and bonus; mileage General Description: Under the direction of the Board of Health, the Animal Control Officer/Animal Inspector performs animal care, investigative and administrative work in the enforcement of State Laws and Regulations and Town Bylaws relating to the control and regulation of domestic animals and other related work as required. Position is a 24 hour per day on-call position, with a quick response time required. Primary Essential Functions: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to, or extension of, the position. Enforcing State and Town animal control laws and regulations Enforcing and initiating appropriate rabies control procedures. This may require decapitation and packaging of potentially rabid specimens for rabies testing Capturing stray dogs and impounding or returning to owner Performing barn inspections Answering calls regarding animals which are a public nuisance Answering emergency calls regarding animals and assisting with other domestic animal disease quarantines in the event of an outbreak Investigating dog biting incidents Testifying in Court and at administrative hearings on cases involving animals Performing the duties of Animal Inspector as required by State Law Maintain a daily log Preparing routine and annual activity reports for the Board of Health Qualifications and Experience: High School graduate or equivalent degree Must complete 30 education credits in the first year Must complete Massachusetts Animal Fund Animal Control Institute Core Competencies Training within the first year (Training through the Animal Control Officers Association of Massachusetts recommended) Must have a valid driver\'s license Experience in the care and handling of wild and domesticated animals Must have working knowledge of State Laws and Regulations and Town Bylaws relating to animal inspection and control Must be able to prepare concise and clearly written reports as required
