Position Summary

The Multicultural Business Programs in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University is seeking a Program Coordinator. This is a fixed-term, twelve-month, academic specialist position with a 100% appointment in the College and is renewable contingent upon funding and performance.

The person in this role will support the efforts of the Multicultural Business Programs office through programming, events, and initiatives. The successful candidate will assist in strategically supporting leadership development, outreach, retention, and academic student success of minoritized students within the Broad College of Business, and focus on leadership development of student organizations. The person in this role will support these efforts in the following ways:

• serve as a liaison while building active relationships with middle and high schools throughout Michigan, and beyond to recruit under-represented students more effectively to MSU and Broad College of Business.

• develop and deliver pre-college programs while continuing current bridge programs to build strong relationships with students resulting in MSU/Broad matriculation.

• Enhance leadership potential of all current students through programming such as tutoring, Summer Business Institute, advising, leadership development via student organizations, etc., to ensure student success.

• utilize methods of communication, email, social media, newsletters, etc. to broadly communicate MBP efforts, and connect with various student populations.

The successful candidate will work with a team in the College’s office of Multicultural Business Programs to provide support services to minoritized prospective students, undergraduate business-preference, and business students (domestic and international), including academic program planning, education abroad, career development, undergraduate research, graduate study, and related topics.

Distribution of unit responsibilities is based on individual interest, strengths, and professional development opportunities. These responsibilities may include lead administration, communication, programming, admissions outreach support, and other projects or initiatives; participating in the development and implementation of activities/projects related to recruitment and student success; and attending meetings at the department, college, and university level. This position will interface regularly with faculty and academic professionals throughout the College and across campus.

Minimum Requirements

At least three years of experience in supporting undergraduate students in an advising or comparable capacity Cross-cultural understanding/sensitivity and commitment to diversity and nuances related to diversity and inclusion Demonstrated communication and dynamic presentation/communication skills Demonstrated interpersonal skills, commitment to and interest in working on a team and collaborating Proven organizational skills with experience in balancing multiple projects Must be able to interpret and implement academic policies and procedures Exhibited competency in the use of technology such as database management, social media composition, presentations, etc. Must be able to maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders such as a diverse student population, faculty, staff, potential employers, and alumni.

Desired Qualifications

Masters degree in higher education, counseling, communication, business, or related field Three years of full-time work in advising undergraduate students or working in an advocacy role in a student affairs capacity Facilitation and teaching experience.
