Michigan State University(MSU) Research Associate-Fixed Term in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Harel Lab at Michigan State University is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers in the broad areas of experimental ultrafast spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, bioimaging, and machine learning. The researcher will develop novel, cutting-edge methodologies to tackle contemporary problems in single-molecule biophysics, 2D quantum materials, THz spectroscopy, multi-dimensional coherent spectroscopy, and other ultrafast techniques.  Strong oral and written communication are required. Proficiency in instrument design is desirable, but not required. Expertise in working with various biophysical methods such as single-molecule assay methodologies and design and in statistical analysis and single molecule tracking is desirable. Other areas of expertise such as technical computing (Matlab, Python), hardware design (CAD, LabView), electronics, machine learning and data science, interferometry, nano- and micro-fabrication, fiber optics, ultrafast lasers, and optical design are desired. Preference will be given to those having a PhD within the last three years (or expected within 6 months) in chemistry, biology, physics, materials science, or electrical engineering is required to apply.

Postdocs will work closely with the PI and peers while having sufficient freedom to develop their own projects and ideas. Successful candidates are expected to actively engage in a collaborative spirit.   Regular dissemination of research progress will occur through internal seminar series and by active participation in workshops and domestic and international conferences.
