Position Summary

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. NiCole T. Buchanan and join a collaborative, interdisciplinary NSF-Funded research team examining Equity in Higher Education. In this ongoing project, Dr. Buchanan is examining barriers to equity and inclusion in higher education for faculty (and by proxy, for postdoctoral scholars and graduate students), with a particular focus on individuals from marginalized groups (e.g., faculty of color, women). Some specific foci include experiences of scholarly devaluation, exclusion and tokenism, and the role of the academic climate in their experiences. This project involves both quantitative and qualitative data and the research fellow will work alongside other postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate researchers. The primary responsibility of the research fellow will be to conduct scholarly (60%), administrative (25%), and human resource (15%) activities on research projects at MSU. Scholarly activities include survey development, administration, and data analysis; manuscript preparation; and scholarly presentations; and grant proposal preparation. Administrative activities include website development and maintenance; human subjects application preparation and submission; project documentation; project coordination; and report preparation. Human resource activities include payroll and budget support, coordinating meetings and scholarly activities with members of the research team across three institutions, and assisting with the training and supervision of graduate students and undergraduate research assistants. Required Degree

Doctorate -Psychology or related field

Minimum Requirements
  • Proficiency with quantitative data analysis Proficiency with NVIVO, SPSS, or similar software programs
  • Research interests in organizational or applied social psychology, inequality, and/or underrepresentation in higher education contexts,
  • Ph.D. required by date of hire.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong publication track record with some first author publications
  • Experience working in collaborative groups or teams
  • Experience supervising or managing others.
