Position Summary

Salary-  hourly rate $36.35 - $43.11 upon meeting progression step requirements.  MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time.  Eligible to work a partial remote schedule    Building Performance Services is composed of five sub-units - Construction Quality Assurance, Asset Management, Central Control, Facility Information Services and Building Systems Efficiency.  This position will reside within the Construction Quality Assurance sub-unit to ensure that new construction and renovation projects are designed, constructed and turned over to Michigan State University in a manner that meets the intent of the owner.   This position will provide trade specific design review, construction inspection, support of contractor coordination, and warranty phase issues resolution for fire alarm and life safety systems. Design review support is typically carried out during 75 - 90% construction documents but involvement during pre-design for planning purposes and involvement in schematic / design development may be required as well.  Construction inspections include equipment and system level quality assurance carried out in alignment with the commissioning process (as applicable) to confirm all installations and construction conform to University standards, applicable codes, and ordinances. This position requires frequent review of construction project blueprints, specifications and the use of computerized project management systems (PlanGrid and Unifier) used for communicating with construction project teams and documenting issues as applicable throughout a given project. The position maintains open communication with any MSU IPF Maintenance Shops that it supports (Electrical, Plumbing, Steam, HVAC, Fire Alarm, etc.).    Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.     This position will engage in high performing, leading edge practices, valuing people, partners and stewardship. Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
  • Associates degree or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Eight years of experience, including at least three years of experience at MSU in the skilled trades' field related to the position or equivalent.
  • Expert knowledge of word processing, project planning, work order, and/or database software.
  • Expert knowledge of blueprint reading and print reviews to assist consultants in compiling with MSU construction standards; and to enforce contractor compliance with the construction documents. 
  • Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Expert knowledge of applicable codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal).
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
Desired Qualifications
