Position Summary

The School of Journalism at Michigan State University is seeking dynamic and engaging candidates for part-time faculty positions to teach advanced reporting courses in journalism, beginning in Fall 2023. Candidates will have demonstrated professional expertise in one or more areas listed, as well as teaching experience. 

Teaching responsibilities may include one or more courses in any of these areas among the School's concentrations and minors: 

  • Broadcast Journalism 
  • Writing, Reporting, and Editing 

Appointments are initially for one semester or one year, depending on scheduling needs, but may be renewed based on funding and performance. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. Required Degree

Masters -Journalism and Mass Communication or related field.

Minimum Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Journalism or a related field.

  • The selected individual will be hired at the title that aligns with their degree and experience qualifications. Equivalency will be based on the below criteria:

    • Bachelor's degree is required for Assistant Instructor.
    • Master's degree is required for Instructor.
  • Demonstrable skills in areas related to course content.

  • Previous teaching experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in journalism, media production or a related field. 

  • Recognized or award-winning achievements in related areas of practice.
