Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for an open rank tenure-stream/tenured faculty position, academic year basis, for expanding its research, teaching, and consulting missions. As part of MSU's "1855 Professorship," the position will be part of a university-wide cohort that will advance and transform high-impact research and teaching in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

The position will be filled at a rank commensurate with the qualifications and record of the successful candidates. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline and have previous research experience. For the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor, teaching experience and an established record of securing extramural funding are also required. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a vigorous independent and collaborative research program, participate in teaching and mentoring early career faculty, fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students, and provide services in the Department, the College of Human Medicine, and other units at the University and outreach in the community at large.

position is part of a multidisciplinary and cross-college

initiative

("1855 Professorships")

focused on quantitative analysis

to

advance one of the central objectives of MSU's strategic plan

:

reducing health disparities.

Hires in this initiative will build long-term capacity for health disparit

ies

research at MSU and forge critical synergies between

our

department

and other units

on campus

including Economics and Psychology.

We are thus seeking candidates with expertise that can be applied to evaluating programs and policies to address health disparities.

Quantitative researchers with the skills to do this work come from a broad range of disciplines. Applicable areas of expertise include but are not limited to

design and

analyses of quasi-experimental

and experimental (randomized trials)

data

,

comparative effectiveness, and causal inference.

Excellent

verbal

and

written communication

skills

and

the

motivation

to

act

as

a

team

member

in

collaborative research ventures are also required.

 

 

The department has 26 faculty conducting research in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Research interests in methods and applications include health services research, longitudinal and correlated data analysis, survival analysis, statistical genetics, causal inference, and analyses of non-experimental or quasi-experimental data. A vibrant collaboration exists in research within the department and with other units throughout the University. Currently, in addition to their research interests, our faculty participate actively in research with colleagues in Economics, Geography, Anthropology, Statistics & Probability, Food Science & Nutrition, Veterinary Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health.
