Assistant Director of Production

Position Summary

As an Assistant Director of Digital Production, you will lead cinematography and serve as one of the primary feature producers for the EMMY award-winning docu-series 'Spartans All-Access.' In addition, you will collaborate with Spartan Vision producers to create engaging content for the Michigan State Athletic Department's social media accounts and marketing initiatives.

Your role is critical to the success of Spartan Vision and the Athletic Department. You will work on high-profile projects that showcase Michigan State's athletics programs. As a critical team member, you will be able to showcase your skills and creativity while contributing to the growth and success of the organization.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce/Film/Edit features forSpartans All-Accessonline

  • Serve as the Director of cinematography and as a content producer for the unit

  • Define color standards for Spartan Vision post-production workflow

  • Edit recaps, highlights, press conferences and player features

  • Assist producers (conceptualize, shoot, write, edit) in creating content for Michigan State Athletics’ various entities.

  • Work with and assist in training students to work in the post-production field

  • Provide insight to advance department with emerging trends in social, digital media and in-venue entertainment

  • Fill network, local and internal footage requests

  • Meet quick turnarounds to post high quality videos on same day(s) that event(s) occur

  • Ensure consistency in brand guidelines and messaging related to all content produced

  • Team or production-related travel throughout the year

  • Maintain equipment used in production

  • Label and archive video (content) within unit standards

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Television Production or Telecommunications; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in studio and remote television production, editing and the use of related television equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with long-format documentary production

  • Part 107 License

  • 360/VR Experience
