Position Summary

The Michigan State University College of Nursing is inviting applications for the new position of Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs. In collaboration with, and under the direction of, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, this position is responsible for assuring the quality and delivery of the graduate programs in the context of the strategic goals of the College of Nursing. Additionally, this role will be closely involved with the operations of the programs, including course scheduling, teaching assignments, faculty and student issues, student and faculty recruitment, program evaluation and resource management. The Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs will be responsible for faculty development and quality improvement related to the graduate programs as well as represent the College of Nursing in University, community, and professional groups and advocates for the graduate programs. This is a full-time, annual year (12 month) faculty appointment with effort distribution across administration, teaching and scholarship.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provides oversight and leadership with the graduate nursing program directors regarding day-to-day management of full-time and part-time fixed-term faculty.

Leads oversight and management of resources for graduate programming to include but not limited to personnel, equipment, and space allocation.

Develops, implements and evaluates orientation program for clinical adjunct, part-time didactic and full-time fixed term faculty, with primary emphasis on graduate programs.

Provides oversight for graduate faculty development to include but not limited to curriculum development, program evaluation, quality online teaching practices, test writing, simulation, competency-based learning, and writing for publications.

Provides direction and leadership for curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation for all graduate programs.

Ensures the alignment of offerings are congruent with College of Nursing initiatives, North Central HLC and CCNE accreditation standards as well as other national accreditation standards, and national professional curriculum guidelines, as appropriate.

Reviews evaluation data relative to graduate faculty, student and curriculum benchmarks, and implements appropriate changes as necessary to assure high quality programming.

Participates in recruitment and retention of students with attention to providing leadership for strategies that optimize diversity and inclusion in the graduate student body.

Engages in strategies to optimize high quality solutions for graduate student concerns and complaints.

Upholds College of Nursing student and faculty policies and collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to revise policies as necessary.

As delegated by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, provides an annual review for part-time and full-time fixed-term faculty with teaching assignments primarily in the graduate programs.

Provides input for the graduate program secretary annual performance review and other staff as requested.

As delegated by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, provides leadership in the preparation of internal and external reports for the College of Nursing and the University.

As delegated by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, seeks opportunities to secure external funding to provide resources for graduate nursing programming in the College of Nursing as well as faculty development.

Participates in committees and groups that affect ongoing viability and strategic planning of the College of Nursing.
