Michigan State University(MSU) Admissions Senior Counselor in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Office of Admissions is seeking a Senior Admissions Counselor to join MSU's energetic regional recruitment team with a goal to increase and diversify out-of-state enrollment from Illinois (secondary territory responsibilities will also be assigned). This is a full-time, fully remote position that will be based in the Chicago area. This position requires a proven self-motivated, self-driven team member to work independently but with the support of eight fellow regional recruiters. This counselor will work directly with students/families, high school and independent counselors, and community-based organizations to expand and build MSU's national outreach.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in professional admissions work at a regionally accredited institution, including experience with domestic freshman and transfer applicants; experience in specialized admissions area; making formal presentations; and working with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Desired Qualifications

Candidates for this position must be enthusiastic, people-oriented, and enjoy working with high school and college students, as well as parents and guidance counselors. Candidates must also have an ability to communicate effectively (both in oral and written form), have strong presentation skills and experience, as well as a proven track record of successful project development and organization. In addition, a successful candidate will have exceptional organizational and writing skills, be willing to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment, and maintain a positive attitude. This position requires knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, as well as virtual technology platforms, the ability to travel throughout the region, and the ability to travel overnight and work nights and weekends.

Candidates with the following are strongly desired, and preferred: 

·        A candidate with knowledge of primary recruitment territory (Illinois). 

·        At least two years of experience of developing and managing a territory for an admissions office. 

·        Experience with Slate and/or similar CRM platforms, as well as virtual fair platforms (with thorough knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams). 

·        Proven track record of success working independently, but who also enjoys working with a team. 

·        Highly energetic, enthusiastic, and experienced presenter. 

·        Excellent writing skills, including a strong cover letter.
