Michigan State University(MSU) Accounting Clerk II in East Lansing, Michigan

Position Summary

The Account Clerk II serves as part of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) Business Office team, performing accounting and client service duties for the business operations of a large and complex laboratory operation. Specific job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with the overall accounting processes and providing clerical support for clients and laboratory employees; utilizing Microsoft Office, the laboratory's LIMS financial system, Sage MAS Business Management software, and EBS to receive and process client payments, phone inquiries, walk-ins, account creation and maintenance; performing audits of newly created accounts; preparing and reconciling billing adjustments; reconciling and creating reports, and initiating various documents in EBS; assisting with processing of weekly billing statements, preparation of armored car deposit pick up, and performing petty cash audits; assisting the Account Collections Coordinator and Business Office Supervisor with various accounts receivable duties and special projects as needed; participating in the creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs); leading and participating in continued process improvement efforts of the Business Office and VDL; other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of VDL, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Michigan State University.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, bookkeeping, records maintenance and/or experience in spreadsheet, word processing, and/or database software. The job may require knowledge of technical or medical terminology and/or technical training related to the field of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of University policies and procedures; proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Access; experience with MSU EBS system; experience working with a LIMS and financial software; work experience in accounting, bookkeeping and records maintenance; ability to interact with varied constituents in a timely, courteous, and professional manner; demonstrates a strong work ethic that includes a focus on service, problem solving, teamwork, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
