Curtiss-Wright Corporation Inspector, 1st Class in East Farmingdale, New York

Inspector 1st Class

We are looking for a 1st Class Inspector to join our Target Rock team!

As our 1st Class Inspector you will be responsible for inspecting raw materials, in-process machined and finished-machined parts for compliance with engineering drawings and/or company specification before they are assembled into a finished product. Inspection is performed on in-process machined parts, on a first piece of a new set-up to qualify both the set-up and the process, on forged or casted pieces to qualify both dies and process. You will also be responsible for determining both the quality and conformance levels of machined parts. Qualified Inspectors shall be able to perform Inspection by CMM or conventional method.

Location: East Farmingdale, NY

Salary/hourly rate: $31.41 to $32.99

Your Challenge

  • Engineering drawing and specification interpretation and the ability to apply these standards in the process of inspection.

  • Determine inspection procedures to ensure complete verification of specification and dimensions.

  • Capable to calibrate and/or verify accuracy of basic inspection tools (thread-gauges, micrometers, functional gauges, etc.) Inspector shall be independently able to select the appropriate measuring tools to inspect parts for compliance with specifications.

  • Evaluate and provide salvage possibilities of items outside specification limits and recommendation for reworking if applicable.

  • Assist with training other inspectors to preform calibration, use optical comparator, hardness testers and other inspection tools.

  • Complete required company paperwork, as applicable, to fully process a job (C1 documentation, Method 1 and Method 2, Commercial Grade, Inspection records, and Inspection reports, others as applicable)

  • Pass First Class Dimensional Inspection Test

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

What You Bring

  • High school or trade school graduate (minimum).

  • Expert knowledge of engineering blueprint and specification reading IAW ASME Y14.5 standard

  • Extensive knowledge of measuring tools.

  • Able to measure thread features using system 21 or 22.

  • Able to interpret and measuring geometric features per ANSI-Y 14.5.

  • Able to calibrate and set thread gauges including Johnson Thread gauges, optical projector, etc.

  • Visual inspection ability must past visual acuity test giving by Target Rock

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to handle and manipulate delicate parts and measuring instruments.

  • Able to verify material hardness and detection of material cracks, pinholes, or other defects.

  • Able to verify material traceability and accountability by viewing approved material certification.

  • Able to lift a weight of 40 lbs. maximum if required for inspection purpose (parts handling).
