Description KLJ Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hydraulics Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing, analyzing, and optimizing hydraulic systems for various applications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in water resources engineering, with a focus on developing, implementing, and managing stormwater models to address flooding, water quality, and ecosystem restoration projects. Key Responsibilities Develop and Implement Modeling Tools: Utilize hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM) for projects involving stormwater management, floodplain mapping, and water quality studies. Stormwater System Evaluation and Solution Design: Identify deficiencies in existing stormwater systems and engineer solutions to mitigate flood risks while enhancing water quality. Stormwater Infrastructure Design: Create and assess designs for stormwater management systems, including but not limited to detention/retention basins, culverts, storm sewers, and green infrastructure components. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with urban planners, environmental scientists, and civil engineers to weave stormwater management considerations into urban development and environmental restoration efforts. Technical Documentation: Generate technical reports, conduct feasibility studies, and create design documents that adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines. Knowledge Advancement and Application: Keep updated on the latest in stormwater management techniques and technologies, integrating innovative solutions into project designs. Mentorship and Technical Guidance: Offer mentorship and technical advice to junior engineers and support staff, fostering professional growth within the team. Stakeholder Engagement and Compliance: Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure project goals are achieved and necessary approvals are secured. Document Oversight: Independently review, create, and adjust project documents, ensuring precision and compliance with standards. Scope and Budget Management: Oversee the engineering production process within scope, and assist with the development of the scope of services, schedules, and budgets. Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 2+ years of experience in hydraulic engineering with a focus on stormwater modeling and analysis. Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software (e.g., SewerGEMS, SSA, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM). Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management practices. Familiarity with environmental regulations related to stormwater management and water quality. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles. Preferred Qualifications (not required, preferred) Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 4+ years of experience in hydraulic engineering with a focus on stormwater modeling and analysis. Professional Engineer license (PE) or able to attain within six (6) months. Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM). Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) or equivalent. Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD - Autodesk/Bentley) Software and ArcGIS Proficiency with FEMA Regulations and Permitting Process Hours and Travel This position involves a standard 40-hour workweek, with occasional overtime required. The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, though the balance between office and field work may vary.
