RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the ALLETE Emergency and Security Operations Center (ESOC) staff and the ALLETE HQ Visitor Center (VC)/Security Desk.

  • Develop, oversee, and implement a variety of corporate-wide and departmental processes and procedures providing 24-hour access control, physical security monitoring and security incident response services protecting information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material from unauthorized access, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, sabotage, or loss.

  • Coordinate and conduct Emergency and Security Control Operator (ESCO) training and certifications, develops work schedules, and oversees daily activities.

  • Assist in the development of corporate-wide security incident response processes, procedures, and provides respective on-scene security support.

  • Coordinate and ensure proper handling of security incident and emergency situations ensuring the initiation of appropriate initial response processes by the ESOC and VC.

  • Requires general knowledge of the FERC, NERC compliance programs, standards, rules, and laws.

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required to establish and maintain relationships.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Security Management, Homeland Security or closely related field of study PLUS four or more years of specialized experience in physical security, security operations, management, administrative and/or supervision OR

  • Associate degree in criminal justice, Security Management, Homeland Security or closely related field of study PLUS six or more years of specialized experience in physical security, security operations, management, administrative and/or supervision OR

  • High School diploma or equivalent PLUS eight or more years of specialized experience in physical security, security operations, management, administrative and/or supervision

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position will report regularly in person to Duluth MN.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as out of town travel to various ALLETE facilities will be required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Certificate.

  • Possess, or able to obtain and maintain an ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification or equivalent.

  • Experience and proven proficiency in access control, intrusion detection and fire alarm systems and monitoring techniques, along with training skills, plan and SOP development, and security operations center operations are desired.

  • Working knowledge of office software (word processing, spreadsheet, database, email) and proficient with security management systems.

  • Proficiency in leadership competencies.

  • This Position is subject to NERC CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation – Critical Infrastructure Protection) standards.

  • Capable of spending long hours driving, walking, and climbing on and around Company assets and surrounding terrain.

  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
