Salvation Army Maintenance Technician in Duluth, Minnesota

Join our team at Plover Place, a pioneering housing project aiming to support individuals experiencing homelessness. With an anticipated start date in Spring 2024, we're looking for dedicated individuals to provide essential services in this innovative initiative. Position Summary The Salvation Army Duluth Corps provides case management, staffing, and life skills programming to Plover Place, a 24-unit permanent supportive housing program for single adults experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The Plover Place Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing basic preventative and corrective maintenance. The Maintenance Technician performs basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry maintenance. $21.00/hour, 40 hours/week Essential Functions (approximate time spent) All work performed within the scope of training and regulations. Perform and schedule routine maintenance (e.g., HVAC, electric, plumbing, carpentry, painting, power equipment). (35%) Complete assigned work orders for preventative and corrective maintenance promptly. (30%) Monitor, inspect, test, and maintain logs for the boiler. (20%) Assist with special events and projects (e.g., setup, equipment transportation, teardown). (5%) Assist with winter grounds upkeep. (5%) Respond to after-hours emergency building calls from the monitoring company as needed. (5%). Education and Experience High school diploma/GED. One or more years of maintenance experience (e.g., carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing). Must possess a Special Boiler license or be able to obtain within 120 days of employment. Corps will support obtaining the license. Pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet MVR requirements. Must have at least one year of experience with the target population served. Competencies Working knowledge and safe handling of equipment, chemicals, and materials regularly used in basic maintenance. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to use PC and standard office equipment. Working Conditions Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and climbing. Regularly lift 40 lbs. and occasionally lift to 100 lbs. Professional environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment. Must be able to sit and stand for reasonable periods. Must be able to communicate clearly in English and work in person or on the phone. Supervisory Responsibilities None.
