Abbott Lead Network Engineer in Dublin, Ireland

ABBOTT BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY SERVICES AT CHERRYWOOD

Abbott Information Technology (IT) is responsible for delivering Information technology solutions and services to over 130+ countries globally.

The hub will be a strategic location for technology talent, delivering regional programs and supporting global operations for critical services.

This position will serve as the technical lead for projects involving complex planning for all Abbott manufacturing sites including detailed design creation, proposals, analysis, project preparation/implementation/and support.

Responsible for timely interaction with customers of the platform, peer technologists, and senior management. This position is the point of contact with regional infrastructure team on behalf of corporate infrastructure team across network, unified communication, server hosting and storage, physical infrastructure, mobility, cloud service and global service desk.

Minimum Education & Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunication, or other related field – or combination of experience / education.

  • 10+ years of Networking experience.

  • 10+ years network experience with multinational enterprises of 5000+ users.

  • 10+ years designing enterprise scale routing and switching environments, MPLS / VPN, WLAN, intrusion prevention, cloud security, firewalls, monitoring tools, network topologies, load balancing, and WAN acceleration / QoS.

  • Experience in healthcare related industries is a plus, ideally man ufacturing

  • Experience with server hosting, storage, cloud computing, unified communication preferred.

  • Experience with people managing experience preferred.

  • Formal ITIL training and experience preferred.

  • Six Sigma certification preferred.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in routing, switching, wireless access, firewall controls, load balancing, security infrastructure, and Zscaler.

Preferred

  • Preferred: MS Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications. Active Certifications: CISSP, CCNP, CCSE, CCIE.

Responsibilities

  • Design large scale enterprise LAN, WLAN including switches, firewalls, and other network related hardware.

  • Define requirements in support of budget plans and make recommendations for ways to improve performance, reduce costs, and meet business requirements.

  • Defines the architecture and hardware requirements for project proposals.

  • Design, execute, support day to day service requests.

  • Lead large scale manufacturing network refresh projects as well as divisional expansion projects.

  • Evaluates and identifies opportunities for network performance and functionality improvement within the enterprise network.

  • Participates in the development efforts to bring automation into the network environment.

  • Responsible for compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and industry best practices.

  • Successfully negotiates technical design and deployment strategy with key stakeholder and consumers of the service.

  • Serve as the platform technical subject matter expert and provide consulting support to the business and end-user organizations.

  • Produces and maintains timely, accurate engineering documentation.

  • Partners with Abbott’s Cybersecurity organization in conducting security and vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with corporate security policies and adherence to best practices.

  • Integrates technical expertise with communication, leadership, and business skills in a team environment.
