About the Job:

An opportunity has arisen for a Junior Sommelier to join the F&B Service team at Jumeirah Burj Al Arab . The main duties and responsibilities of this role are:

  • Report to duty on time.

  • Attend Sommeliers briefing.

  • Pick up wines from stores after proper checking of the order and quantity.

  • Stock rotation update. (FIFO)

  • Outlet setup according to business levels.

  • Checking of all wine storage units to make sure all wine is stored at the right temperature.

  • Checking of all equipment needed for operation (decanters, glassware, ice buckets, service napkins etc.) making sure that everything is in perfect condition.

  • Communicate to the Head Sommelier any changes that are required for outlet wine list and beverage menus.

  • Minimize wastage by avoiding too many opened bottles.

  • Control and monitor wine orders, stock and par level.

  • Ensure all tables are attended during the service; refilling and fresh orders are taken throughout.

  • Build rapport with teams to enhance team work and smooth operation.

  • Ensure 100% contribution to LQA and Jumeirah standards.

  • Prepare mise en place well in advance.

  • Attend outlet briefings.

  • Report feedbacks and suggestions to Head Sommelier and Outlet Managers.

  • Send updates of the availabilities and non-availabilities.

  • Ensure proper closure and preservation system is used for the opened bottles at all times; transfers, requisitions, spoilages are all handled correctly and on time.

  • Monthly inventories.

  • Carry out cleaning of wine chillers for specific outlets assigned.

  • Support the restaurant’s service team.

  • Support with additional tasks assigned by Sommeliers/Assistant Head Sommelier and Head Sommelier.

  • Meet deadlines for assigned tasks.

  • Drive beverage revenue in the outlets and maintain beverage cost within budget by effective up selling.

  • Maintain up to date wine and beverage list as per Burj Al Arab standards after coordination with Beverage Manager.

  • Train all F&B team members on existing and new products, as well as selling techniques and any other necessary beverage trainings.

  • Build rapport with teams to enhance team work and smooth operation.

  • Ensure wine cabinets are well arranged and kept clean all the time.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Minimum WSET Level 3 or CMS Certified

  • Tertiary Education or Equivalent.

  • Basic hotel school diploma.

  • Good command in written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Should have over one year experience in a similar position.

  • Additional foreign language
