Serco Infrastructure Support Engineer (Tier II) in Downsview, Ontario

Position Description

Purpose of the Job:

  • Responsible for troubleshooting all system and network related problems while working jointly with the other SMEs. This position will be working closely with Application team and infrastructure team and with our cloud/hosting providers in supporting mission-critical systems and network environment.

  • Responsible for advance troubleshooting of 600+ tablet endpoints running on windows, using COTS applications, including but not limited to issues with hardware, network, application GPS. Provisioning of the tablets.

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving all application related problems while working jointly with COTS and hosting partners. This position will be also responsible for the configuration, deployment, and overall Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of web-based 3rd party COTS and custom developed (Open Source) applications and the underlying Microsoft SQL database. The ideal candidates have strong ownership and sense of urgency supporting mission-critical business environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot system / network issues, and provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA) working effectivity with partners and while collaborating with other IT streams.

  • Develop, test and deploy necessary fixes and system/network upgrades in collaboration with partners and other IT Support teams.

  • Troubleshoot application/database/system issues, and provide a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) collaborating with partners and/or Open Source communities. Ensure issues/requests are resolved in a timely manner and in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Provide off-hour support to avoid any service impact to the customer.

  • Test and deploy necessary fixes and application upgrades in collaboration with partners. Off-hour support will be required to avoid any service impact to the customer.

  • Consult with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives.

  • Write manuals for users to describe functionality, installation, and standard operating procedures.

  • Participate in team-based projects, many of which may be matrix managed.

  • Perform other technical duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology / Computer Science or related disciplines e.g. Engineering

  • Candidates with 2 to 4 years of experience are preferred.

  • Exceptional skills/talent troubleshooting systems (Windows servers in enterprise environment) and LAN, WAN support and troubleshooting.

  • Relevant IT Certification , CCNA, MSCE

  • Exceptional skills/talent troubleshooting complex web-based application/system issues.

  • Solid understanding of highly available architecture and experience supporting mission-critical services.

  • Ability to work under limited supervision.
