Location: Preference for people in Austin (TX), Broomfield (CO), or Nashua (NH). People remote from other locations in the US will also be considered.
Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure organization is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best-in-class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever-expanding set of foundational cloud-based services.
As an engineer on this new team, you will participate in building one of the core blocks of OCI next Gen architecture. It will be a high-scale, high-performance, distributed platform that offers data storage, distribution and caching solutions to OCI services. It will involve working on different technologies such as Oracle DBs, MySQL, Kafka, Hibernate, JDBC, Redis, that can enable scalability and reliability.
As a founding team member, you will be involved in early design discussions, prototype development all the way through implementation and operating the platform. You will collaborate with several architects, domain authorities and highly qualified engineers. Post launch, you will enhance the functionality and provide operational improvements as well as day-to-day operations of this stack.
We’re looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the software design and development for major components of this platform. You should be both a proven coder and a distributed systems generalist, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should have experience operating large cloud services and have good familiarity with operational tools. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.
Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
6+ years of experience shipping services software
3+ years of technical leadership experience
5+ years of object oriented programming
Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals. Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards, including SMTP, REST, SSL and HTTP
Strong understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage and distributed persistence technologies.
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
Advantageous Qualifications
Experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
Strong grasp of Unix-like operating systems
Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure a strong plus.
Domain expertise in one of the following areas - storage systems/embedded databases/security/networking.

US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
