Job Description

ESG Operations, an Inframark Company, is hiring a Public Works Crew Leader in Douglas, GA. As a member of our team responsible for the operations and maintenance of municipal public works, you would lead a crew in the completion of tasks related to general upkeep, ground maintenance, streets and signs of public property, and right of way. You would be responsible for a team of 7 public works technicians, including assigning work orders and supervising job performance.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Serve as lead worker in completing tasks such as repairing pot holes, mowing grass, digging graves, or repairing sewer lines requiring the operation of equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, tractors, weedeaters or mowers.

  • Assign work areas to crew members, ensuring compliance with departmental safety regulations in execution of tasks.

  • Supervise and assist with landscaping, including planting trees and flowers, mulching flower beds and trees, pruning trees, shrubs and decorative grass, and watering trees and plants.

  • Locate sewer problems using specially designed equipment; marks area for digging to reach damaged tanks or pipes.

  • Clean and repair sewer lines and related structures such as manholes, culverts, and catch basins; dumps waste into designated depository; inspects manholes to locate sewer line stoppages.

  • Perform periodic inspections of equipment of responsibility and make minor repairs; repairs broken pipes, sewer lines, water lines or sprinklers as required.

  • Restore and repair gravesites; reset monuments; set and reset foot markers.

  • Mow and trim assigned property; remove brush, tree limbs, and leaves; clean alleys and right-of-ways and sidewalks; trims hedges.

  • Plant and fertilize trees, shrubs, grass and flowers on assigned property as directed; spray for weeds in flower beds and on lawns.

  • Complete required paperwork for area of responsibility.

  • Attend safety classes, reinforce and comply with company safety policies

  • Works harmoniously with ESG employees and the public and comply with all ESG policies

Qualifications

Prefer four years of progressively responsible work experience in the Public Works industry, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a valid state driver’s license and meet minimum driving standards.

Knowledge of: Requiring minimum responsibility for only small quantities of low-cost items or supplies where opportunities for achieving economies or preventing loss are negligible. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division may compute ratios, rates, and percentages. Requiring responsibility for the actions of others, requiring almost constant decisions affecting co-workers or others in the general public; working in a moderately fluid environment with guidelines and rules. Makes decisions with minor impact; affects only those in the immediate work area.

Skill in: Handling or using machines, tools, equipment, or relevant work aids. The job involves some latitude for judgment regarding the attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate equipment.

Ability to: Read simple sentences or instructions; write simple sentences; speak simple sentences using basic grammar. Perform semi-routine work following procedures with occasional problem-solving required; requires normal attention for accurate results.

Physical requirements: This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force regularly. The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required. The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, and depth perception.
