Serta Simmons Bedding is seeking a skilled Materials Engineer to join our dynamic team.

As a Materials Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and performance of our products through meticulous oversight of raw material testing, maintenance of test equipment, and conducting root cause analyses for material quality issues.

Your expertise will also be crucial in training technicians and translating product requirements into measurable physical properties of materials.

How You'll Do It:

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the Material Analysis & Qualification (MAQ) Laboratory, including expanding capabilities through development of new test procedures and equipment maintenance and calibration.

  • Provide analytical and technical expertise to support product development through material and prototype testing as required.

  • Perform mathematical calculations, interpret test results, analyze data, write reports, and maintain comprehensive records.

  • Guide or train other laboratory personnel in material testing, root-cause investigation, technical evaluations, and new test methodologies.

  • Represent the MAQ lab in departmental and external meetings, offering expertise on testing processes and providing updates on project status as needed.

  • Maintain and enhance applicable 6σ lean programs in the laboratory to improve process flow, testing accuracy, and reduce costs.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.

What You'll Bring:

  • 1-5 years of related experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or equivalent

  • Experience in a fast-paced, team environment with ability to manage short notice assignments

  • Proficiency with test equipment, ASTM and AATCC testing methodologies, MS Office suite, and common laboratory software (LabView experience is a plus)

  • Knowledge of polymer science, mechanical properties of materials, or similar field

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the testing laboratory in meetings, supplier visits, and third-party laboratory interactions

  • Effective interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining cooperative relationships across functions

  • Self-motivated with a strong spirit of innovation; able to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines

  • Skilled in mathematical calculations, data analysis, and technical report writing

  • Team-oriented with initiative, flexibility, and a collaborative approach

Job Factors/Work Environments

  • Location: Onsite at our Corporate Innovations Center, Doraville GA SSB Campus

  • Work Schedule Options:

  • Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm EST

  • Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6pm EST

  • Weekend Work: Not required

  • Travel: Up to 15% travel required

  • Physical Requirements: Work may involve lifting 50 lbs. or more

  • Environment: Ideal candidate should enjoy working in a lab environment

Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
