An Import/Export Purchasing Specialist is responsible for managing the procurement and logistics of goods and services across international borders. This role involves coordinating with suppliers, negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, and managing the documentation required for customs clearance. Key duties typically include:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sourcing and Procurement : Identifying and evaluating suppliers globally, negotiating terms of purchase, and securing goods or services at the best possible cost and quality.

  2. Logistics Coordination : Arranging for the transportation of goods, ensuring timely delivery, and coordinating with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and customs brokers.

  3. Compliance Management : Ensuring that all import and export activities comply with international trade laws and regulations, including tariffs, duties, and trade agreements.

  4. Documentation : Preparing and managing all necessary documentation for customs clearance, including invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and any other required documents.

  5. Risk Management : Identifying and mitigating risks associated with international trade, such as currency fluctuations, geopolitical instability, and shipping delays.

  6. Inventory Management : Monitoring inventory levels to ensure that stock is available when needed while minimizing excess inventory.

  7. Supplier Relationship Management : Maintaining good relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain and negotiating favorable terms.

  8. Cost Control : Managing budgets, tracking expenses, and finding ways to reduce costs associated with purchasing and logistics.

  9. Market Analysis : Keeping up-to-date with global market trends, including changes in supply and demand, to make informed purchasing decisions.

  10. Problem Solving : Addressing issues that arise during the import/export process, such as delays, damaged goods, or discrepancies in documentation.

Skills Required:

  • Expert level proficiency in Excel (including pivot tables), AI tools, and Power BI.

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills .

  • Knowledge of international trade laws and regulations .

  • Experience with logistics and supply chain management .

  • Proficiency in handling import/export documentation .

  • Analytical skills to assess market trends and make strategic decisions .

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously .

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement software .

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure .

This role is crucial for companies involved in global trade, ensuring that goods move smoothly across borders while optimizing costs and maintaining compliance with all regulations.

Pay Details: $46,000.00 to $50,000.00 per year
