Job Overview:

The Senior Field Engineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the field discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the field discipline. The Senior Field Engineer solves complex problems and uses their discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Field Engineer impacts a range of customers, operational, project, or service activities with the field team and other related teams and ensures that they are working within the appropriate guidelines and policies.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Review tender documents including scope of work, drawings, and specifications

  • Coordinate the input from all Offshore Operations departments into a single proposal summary

  • Attend bid interviews with Management and participate in Houston reviews

  • Ensure all input bid has been reviewed and approved by the Division Manager and General Superintendent and Division Manager before submittal. The Diving Manager is to review and approve all diving estimates

  • Determine if any clarifications are required from the company regarding the information provided in the tender documents

  • Circulate relevant sections of the tender documents and develop v=briefing documents for all division departments

  • Prepare technical clarifications/qualifications about the scope of work, drawings, and specifications and submit them to the Proposal Coordinator

  • Determine the sequence of work to be performed

  • Determine the equipment to perform the work based on availability, tender requirements, and management bid philosophy

  • Determine the crew make-up required for each phase of the project. Update and circulate crew make-ups as required. This includes nationality determinations and alterations to standard changes to cost for alternate nationalities, fuel, catering pricing, etc.

  • Determine the duration of work, using historical records for similar jobs where applicable

  • Prepare a bar chart schedule for the marine work including vessel modifications and other preparatory work

  • Prepare miscellaneous costs for offshore work. This will include barge rig-ups / designs, port clearances, and project consumables. The offshore miscellaneous costs will include input from Diving, E&M, safety, etc. And identify all costs of compliance with the tender documents

  • Coordinate all required construction engineering and preparation of technical drawings for bid submittals

  • Prepare written procedures on safe work methods which meet project requirements for inclusion in the technical bid submission

  • Ascertain what work contained in the proposal document is to be subcontracted if any

  • Prepare technical description and bid price structure for subcontract requests for a quotation based on anticipated schedule and Company’s job requirements. This is performed in coordination with the Subcontracts Administrator and Proposal Coordinator who assemble the commercial portions of the request quotation. Typical

  • subcontracts the Offshore Coordinator will be responsible for are:

  • Survey

  • Dredging

  • Pipe haul

  • Near shore crossing

  • Pipeline pre-commissioning

  • Answer technical clarifications requested by the tendering Subcontractors if any

  • Evaluate subcontract qualifications and make recommendations to the Proposals Coordinator for a lump sum and miscellaneous costs

  • Review subcontract qualifications for incorporation into principal qualifications to the company

  • Provide tender resource and scheduling information to the Administration and Planning group for financial forecasting purposes

  • Coordinate with other company departments in the preparation of the tender

  • Review Engineering studies conducted for the tender with regards to the Offshore Operation

  • Prepare bid summary book for all offshore input for major proposals

Essential Qualifications and Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry with Major Contractors or consultant

  • At least 2-3 years of Operations and field Engineering experience

  • Thorough knowledge of excel spreadsheet with macro commands

  • MS Project scheduling software

  • Familiar with Subcontract activities
