Job Posting Summary

The Director of Internal Communications will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of transparency, engagement, and unity within Mercy University. This strategic leader will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive internal communications strategy across all internal audiences, including faculty and staff, which aligns with the university's mission, values, and objectives. The position will coordinate on University messaging that is disseminated to students. The Director of Internal Communications coordinates communication strategy with the Executive Director Student Communications, AVP of Marketing and Data Analytics, and the MarCom managers and directors who represent the various divisions and schools across the University.

  • Internal Communications Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a holistic internal communications strategy that effectively disseminates key information to internal audiences.

  • Identify and utilize various communication channels, ensuring the timely and consistent delivery of messages across the organization.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

  • Employee Engagement:

  • Develop initiatives to enhance employee engagement and promote a sense of belonging and pride among staff.

  • Facilitate open communication forums, town hall meetings, and other events to encourage dialogue and collaboration within the organization.

  • Content Development:

  • Oversee the creation of internal content, including newsletters, intranet articles, and multimedia materials that effectively communicate University updates, achievements, and milestones.

  • Ensure content is clear, compelling, and aligned with the University's values.

  • Supports Academic Communications:

  • Work closely with University leaders to craft and deliver compelling messages that resonate with faculty and reinforce the institution's vision.

  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on communication matters, supporting them in conveying the University's mission and priorities.

  • Crisis and Executive Communications:

  • Support crisis and executive communication plans to address internal issues promptly and transparently.

  • Serve as a point of contact for internal stakeholders during critical situations.

  • Supports other University communication priorities and projects as a subject matter expert.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in internal communications, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful internal communications strategies.

  • Ability to write and execute strategic communication plans utilizing a variety of media materials with limited oversight.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.

  • Be a proactive self-starter with excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to adapt to change, meet deadlines and pivot priorities on short notice.

  • Skills in establishing and delivering on strategic goals, defining objectives, choosing courses of action and evaluating outcomes.

  • Experience in higher education or a similar complex organization is a plus.

    Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

    Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per University policies

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
