Job Posting Summary

Mercy University seeks an experienced and knowledgeable Data Analyst to design and produce accurate data reports to support the implementation of two US Department of Education grants: COMPASS, a five-year project funded through the U.S. ED’s Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Title V Program, and GRAD-PRO, a five-year project funded by the US ED Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) Program.

The goals of COMPASS are to increase enrollment, persistence, and retention of undergraduate Hispanic and low-income students, to improve their on-time graduation rates, and to develop new curricular and co-curricular practices to meet their social, emotional, and academic needs. Over the course of the next five years, COMPASS will allow our faculty and administration to establish a new First-Year Experience for all freshmen and rebuild our General Education curriculum to foster student engagement, expand student support, and help our students cultivate a sense of belonging at Mercy. Program objectives include: (1) In each year of the grant beginning in Year 2, at least 80 percent of first-time full-time students, including Hispanic or low-income students, will pass the First Year Seminar course with a grade of C or better; (2) In each year of the grant beginning in Year 2 at least 75 percent of first-time, full-time students, including Hispanic or low-income students, who are enrolled in FYS will retain to the next year with a GPA of at least 2.0; and (3) By the end of Year 5, at least 50 percent of the Hispanic or low-income students who participate in COMPASS will graduate from Mercy University with a bachelor’s degree within six years.

The other half of the position will focus on the GRAD-PRO grant, which has four major activities focusing on the success of graduate students: Activity 1: Providing student access to experiential learning in community-based health care settings; Activity 2: Implementing evidence-based practices for advancing student success for underserved students through faculty mentoring and induction support in Educational settings; Activity 3: Providing evidence-based professional development opportunities designed to support mentoring of students and to build asset-based and inclusive mindsets among all graduate faculty at Mercy; and Activity 4: Offering a new series of advanced certificates in an online format that can lead to the completion of the MS in Business Analytics. The GRAD-PRO project involves the cooperation and collaboration of all Schools at Mercy University. The objectives include: (1) Expand postbaccalaureate educational opportunities for, and improve the academic attainment of, Hispanic students; (2) Provide an enhanced focus of academic and career alignment; (3) Expand and support a culture of faculty mentorship with personalized interactions between faculty and students; (4) Bolster student retention, persistence, and degree attainment by providing supplementary resources, including scholarships, to offset the cost of educational expenses.

Working in collaboration with the Project Directors, Activity Directors, and external evaluators, as well as partners in student and faculty support offices across Mercy University, the Data Analyst will play a vital role in helping to achieve the project objectives. The successful candidate will also liaise with the University’s Institutional Research Office in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to various stakeholders as the two grant project teams pursue curricular/co-curricular interventions and student support initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes in alignment with all project objectives.

The successful candidate will be someone who understands the role of data in establishing a coordinated assessment infrastructure, particularly in the area of student success, who is committed to closing equity gaps in course outcomes, and who enjoys working collaboratively as part of cross-functional teams to solve problems in support of an institutional mission.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Conducting detailed analyses of student outcomes related to activities under both project, including course completion and grades, retention, and degree completion.

  • Collecting and analyzing real-time, in-semester data on student engagement, attendance, support utilization, and more, to develop and circulate updated lists of students who would benefit from targeted outreach and support from peer mentors and other support staff

  • Integrating data from various systems, examining patterns in data, and drawing insights that can be used to support pedagogical and student support work across the General Education curriculum and relevant graduate courses

  • Working with each project’s external evaluator to prepare statistical reports to the Project Director and Assistant Director for use in grant reports submitted to US ED

  • Meeting regularly with campus partners in Student Affairs, the Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation, the Office of Educational Assessment, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and other offices to develop statistical analyses of student engagement, academic progress, student learning, and other metrics

  • Collaborating with Student Affairs to develop updated lists of students requiring targeted outreach and support in these gateway classes based on a range of data sources—including student engagement in Blackboard; faculty progress report campaigns; course attendance; and more.

  • Preparing data analyses for regular meetings with the COMPASS and GRAD-PRO project teams, and for external presentations to the University community and other audiences

  • Working in collaboration with the Institutional Research Office to utilize analytics tools such as data dashboards; adapt such resources to project activities; and help activity directors and campus partners understand the value and relevance of these resources to the achievement of the project objectives

  • Working with project teams, campus partners, and external evaluators to development assessment tools and measures tied to key project activities such as new student orientation and first-year experience activities.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:
