Job Posting Summary

Mercy University seeks a dynamic and energetic individual to join our team at the Dobbs Ferry Campus as an Admissions Counselor with primary responsibility recruiting in Rockland County and Orange County. The Admissions Counselor will develop partnerships with high school counselors and corporate/community organizations while generating inquiries from prospective students that convert to enrolled students. The Admissions Counselor will provide best-in-class customer service to students who have expressed an interest in attending Mercy University. The Admissions Counselor will use all available technology (phone, email, text, chat, etc.) to engage students immediately upon inquiry and cultivate a relationship through support and excitement for the journey ahead. The Admissions Counselor is often the point of contact a student has with Mercy University. To that end, we seek an enthusiastic and driven “people person” to join our team.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Student relations management

  • Provide guidance, recommendations, and information to interested students.

  • Promote next steps in recruitment process (campus visitation, applying, etc.)

  • Set up appointments for Admission Counselors and campus visitation.

  • Use the CRM system to record all student communications.

  • Provide insight on how processes might be adjusted to improve the customer experience.

  • Assist in the inputting of electronic and paper-based inquiry forms

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Recruitment: Represent Mercy University at recruitment events, college fairs, high schools, and community outreach programs to attract potential students and promote the institution's academic offerings and benefits.

  • Event Planning: Assist in planning and executing admission-related events, such as open houses, admitted student days, and orientation programs.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Comfortable engaging and connecting with prospective students both in person and on the phone.

  • Experience giving presentations to prospective students, their families, advisors, counselors, and others in partnership organizations.

  • Motivated, with a sense of urgency to achieve individual, team, departmental, and University goals.

  • Exhibits tenacity and creativity in addressing and solving problems.

  • Team player who is just as excited to work collaboratively as autonomously.

  • Proficient in MS Office and Outlook, Banner, Slate, and other software relevant and necessary to perform in an admission office.

  • Ability to travel locally daily and work occasional nights and Saturdays.

    Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

    Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a car.

  • Must be able to push, pull, move, or lift to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per college policies.

    Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

    Mercy University promotes a community campus environment. As a result, employment is limited to the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
